Privacy Policy
The short version
- Your videos never leave your device. All processing happens in your browser.
- We collect usage statistics (which tool, file sizes, timing, browser type) to run and improve the service.
- If you create an account we store your email address. We send marketing emails only if you opt in, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
Your videos
Videos and audio you open with SmartVideoEditor are processed locally by your browser using WebAssembly. They are never uploaded to our servers, and we never see, store or analyse their content.
Data we collect
When you use a tool: the tool name and settings, the input and output file size, the video length, processing time, success or error messages, your browser, operating system and device type, an approximate country, and a pseudonymous visitor ID stored in a cookie. Your IP address is stored only as a salted one-way hash, used for daily limits and abuse prevention.
When you visit pages: the page address, referring website, campaign tags (UTM) and response time, linked to the same pseudonymous visitor ID.
When you create an account: your email address, an optional name, a password hash (we never store your password itself), how you signed up (email or Google), how you found us, and your marketing preference. If you opt in to marketing we also record when and from which IP address you gave consent, as proof required by law.
How we use it
- To provide the tools and enforce fair daily limits.
- To keep the service secure and detect abuse.
- To understand which tools are useful and fix problems.
- To send account emails (verification, password reset, a welcome message).
- To send tips, product news and offers — only if you opted in.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in (svd_sess), to apply daily limits (svd_gid), and to remember how you first found us (svd_ft). If enabled, Google Analytics and Google AdSense set their own cookies to measure traffic and show ads. When ads are shown, visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland are asked for consent through Google's consent message before personalised advertising is used.
Service providers
We use a hosting provider to run the site, an email provider to send account emails, and — if enabled — Google Analytics, Google AdSense and Google Sign-In. The video engine (FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly) is loaded from a public CDN; it does not receive your videos.
How long we keep data
Request logs are kept for up to 30 days, usage statistics for up to 12 months, and account data until you delete your account. Aggregated, anonymous statistics may be kept longer.
Your choices and rights
- Turn marketing emails on or off any time on your account page or with the unsubscribe link.
- Delete your account and personal data from your account page.
- Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, and to object to processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.
Children
SmartVideoEditor is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Business transfer
If SmartVideoEditor is acquired or transferred, user data may be transferred to the new owner under this same policy.
Changes
We may update this policy. Significant changes will be announced on the site.
